Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s NGO Cell organised a solemn ‘Shaheed Smriti Programme’ at Smritika Complex in Lucknow on the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War.
The ceremony featured the lighting of 527 ceremonial lamps in memory of the fallen heroes, symbolising gratitude for their courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the nation.
The event was attended by Dr Neeraj Singh, BJP State Vice-President, as the chief guest. During the programme, Manmohan Pandey, elder brother of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, was honoured with a ceremonial shawl and memento in recognition of the family’s supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal felicitated Beena Jang, mother of soldier Sunil Jang, along with his sister, acknowledging the invaluable contribution and sacrifice of military families.
Among those present were Major General Manish Kukreti (Sena Medal), Anand Dwivedi, BJP Lucknow Metropolitan President, MLAs Neeraj Bora and O.P. Srivastava, Pramod Sharma, Member of the Cantonment Board, MLC Pawan Singh Chauhan, MP representative Divakar Tripathi, Hemant Dixit, Chairman of Centurion Foundation, along with public representatives, former servicemen, social workers and prominent citizens.
Floral tributes were offered to the Kargil martyrs, followed by the lighting of 527 lamps. The programme also honoured ex-servicemen and featured a patriotic laser show highlighting the bravery and sacrifices of India’s armed forces.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Neeraj Singh described Kargil Vijay Diwas as a lasting symbol of the valour, patriotism and selfless sacrifice of Indian soldiers. He urged young people to contribute actively to nation-building and draw inspiration from the lives of the country’s martyrs.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from defence aspirants, who pledged to uphold the values of discipline, duty, patriotism and public service while contributing to the nation’s progress.
The programme concluded with a moving light-and-sound presentation depicting the story of the Kargil War, leaving the audience with a renewed sense of national pride and deep respect for India’s armed forces. The ceremony ended with resounding chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.”
